About 3M Earplugs
Combat Arms Earplugs™ (CAEv2) are used in the military to protect hearing losses in soldiers. Combat Arms Earplugs™ (CAEv2) manufactured by Aearo Technologies in 2000 designed a faulty product that became a source of pain for a huge number of soldiers. The product was not well suited to its purpose. It could not protect the ears from noise due to its inability to properly cover the ear canal. This defect was even overlooked by expert audiologists and the product was released. This inefficiency led to a huge disaster and a serious health hazard to a lot of soldiers who used the product as protection and were exposed to high-pitched noise. In this way, instead of shielding them, the product led to their deafening. The US government bought the Earplugs and issued them to military soldiers in the year 2003 to 2015 and 3M sold the defective product deliberately.
Product defect
The product had a defect of the size which didn’t fit well to block all the noise that it is meant to. The actual product, without defect, protected the ear by blocking the noise due to its dual-ended design. When the round side was plugged it blocked all the noise while the yellow side had a very unique design that allowed only spoken commands and blocked all the explosions.
